Scores on the Doors response to the Food Standards Agency
Posted by Lisa Ackerley on August 20th 2008
The final date for submitting responses to the Scores on the Doors consultation has now passed. The Food Standards Agency will use this information to design a model scheme that they will encourage all UK local authorities to follow. Its recommendation is due before the end of the year.
In 2009, the Food Standards Agency will be promoting these schemes widely, using TV advertising and other mass media channels, so that consumers will know how they can find out the hygiene standards of a restaurant before they make their decision to eat there.
Public awareness of these schemes will substantially change things for food businesses; a bad score could lead to reduced profits and a loss of reputation for large companies. Businesses will need to ensure that their hygiene standards are never compromised. The excuse that “we’re having a bad day” is no longer an option.
Hygiene Audit Systems can help businesses by carrying out a food safety audit and giving a ‘scores on the doors prediction’ before the EHO visits. We can also recommend ways that businesses can gain top marks so that they can use these schemes to promote their businesses.
